Admiring Christina Hendricks

‘Mad Men’s’ Christina Hendricks to Star in Sundance’s ‘Hap and Leonard’

Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks has found her follow-up role.

The Emmy nominee has joined the cast of the Sundance TV drama Hap and Leonard, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on the book series by Joe Lansdale, the six-episode series centers on a pair of best friends and martial arts experts Hap Collins (The Following’s James Purefoy) and Leonard Pine (Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Kenneth Williams) who struggle through misadventure in a bid to stay on the right side of the law in 1980 East Texas.

Hendricks will star as Hap’s ex-wife Trudy, who resurfaces after two years with a proposition that he can’t refuse. Equal parts funny and shocking, the drama offers a side-eyed look into race, class and friendship.

For Hendricks, the role marks her follow-up to AMC’s Mad Men — which garnered her five supporting actress Emmy nominations for her role as Joan Harris. The casting also keeps her in the AMC family as SundanceTV is owned by corporate parent AMC Networks and overseen by AMC president Charlie Collier, who has a longstanding relationship with the actress.

Hendricks, who also won two Critics’ Choice awards for her Mad Men performance, is repped by ICM Partners and Link Management. Her recent credits include Comedy Central’s spoof Another Period. The casting comes after Hendricks exited Showtime’s Cameron Crowe pilot Roadies, which will recast the part.

Hap and Leonard will air in 2016. The drama hails from Cold in July writers Jim Mickle and Nick Damici, marking the duo’s second Lansdale adaptation. The pair have adapted Lansdale’s novels, novellas and short stories of the same name for this drama. Mickle will direct, with Nick Schumaker and Jeremy Platt exec producing. Lansdale will co-exec produce with Lowell NorthropLinda Moran will produce. The drama is produced by Sundance Studios.
