With her infamous curves and shock of flaming red hair, we knew it wouldn’t be long before Christina Hendricks, star of the TV series ‘Mad Men‘, was signed up to be the ‘face’ of the latest must-have. Enter fellow redhead, ‘godmother of punk’ Dame Vivienne Westwood, in search of a model for her new jewellery range, and you have a match made in fashion heaven.
Hendricks, 35, has been quoted waxing lyrical about Westwood‘s work in the past, saying: “She is my favourite designer. As a young girl I would cut out pictures of her dresses from magazines, although I was never able to afford them. Even now I only have one in my closet”. She says of the collaboration: “It was a great honour for me to be asked to represent the ‘Get a Life‘ palladium jewellery collection. I admire that Vivienne uses her designs to inspire change and the pieces are just so wonderful. The pieces really sparkle under the lights and I cannot wait to wear them on the red carpet.”
And Westwood, 69, is equally praising about her new spokesmodel: “Christina is the embodiment of beauty and we were delighted to have been able to involve her with this new jewellery collection. Her style is just so complimentary to my designs. She has proved to be the perfect model for the campaign”.The new collection comprises both couture and commercial pieces crafted from palladium, a naturally white metal belonging to the platinum family. Designs from the collection are inspired by nature and from symbols of paganism – the acorn, the oak tree and the heart all feature to represent strength, power and hope for change to make the environment better for the future.
The Vivienne Westwood ‘Get a Life’ palladium jewellery collection will be available in Vivienne Westwood boutiques in London and LA from March 2011.
